Topic: Special therapies that help loosen our horse's thoracic sling of muscles around both of the front legs seems to be gaining a lot of traction. Groups and posts are all buzzing about exercises we can do to loosen, strengthen, lift, or somehow improve the use of these muscles all around the shoulders and ribcage in order to help our horse move better. This emphasis on the mobility of the forehand is not wrong, we just can't isolate it. Until the spine, ribcage and pelvis are stabilized in our horse, the front end is doing the job - hence the problems related to that dysfunction. If we want to free up the shoulders or improve mobility through the entire thoracic sling of soft tissues,, then our horse needs to be engaged and stable through the midline and hindquarters first.
