Topic: If teaching through tasks, such as riding maneuvers, patterns or navigating obstacles, actually taught horses and riders to balance as a side effect, then we would not have the problems we have in the horse world. But we and our horses can all perform many tasks and get the job done while still struggling with fear issues, defensive behaviors and chronic lameness issues. When we don't pay attention to HOW we do what we do, then we tend to deplete the very systems of body and mind. When we make balance the focus of training, then the tasks just become easier to achieve. Looking at riding from the inside out means that we take some time to improve the internal operating systems of ourselves and our horses, hopefully before big problems arise, but afterwards is just fine too.
