Ep. 155: Special Revelation (Season II)
Today we will be discussing the doctrine of special revelation and how our Lord Jesus Christ viewed the scriptures during his earthly ministry. We'll be focusing on Exodus 32:16 where we see that the 10 Commandments were written by the finger of God himself. First, let us read the verse in question, and the tablets were the work of God.
The writing was the writing of God engraved on the tablets. This verse is clear in its assertion that the 10 Commandments were not merely inspired by God, but were literally written by him. This is a powerful demonstration of the doctrine of special revelation, which teaches us that God has revealed himself and his will to us through the scriptures.
Special revelation is different from general Revelation, which we spoke of last week, which is the knowledge of God that we gain from observing the world around us. Psalm 19:1 through 6 is what we, reviewed. While general revelation is sufficient to leave us without excuse when it comes to the knowledge of God's existence, it is not enough to bring us to the knowledge of our own sin and the knowledge of Gods saving grace.
For that, we need special revelation. The Bible is the primary means by which God has given us special revelation. It is his written word, which he has breathed out by His spirit, 2 Timothy 3:16. It is not merely a collection of human writings, but is the very word of God himself. This is how Jesus viewed the scriptures during his earthly ministry.
