Paul’s ministry in Athens in Acts 17: 16-34 shows that one can be true to the commands in the Great Commission even when being sensitive to the pluralistic cultural setting of one’s listeners. Paul’s ministry style shows the importance of the timing and pacing of how that ministry is conducted, a tremendous concern and respect for those who hear, and an understanding of the difference in approach to believers and nonbelievers. The chaplain must recognize the “unknown god” in diversity.
