The MEN of INFLUENCE: TRANSFORMATION THROUGH MENTOR RELATIONSHIPS
Session 123 - Overcoming Destructive Labels
Knowing who God is, has got to be number one priority. Second to that is knowing who we are.
Part of the recovery journey is to discover your true identity in Christ. Simply put we need to discover who we are in Him.
We can rarely raise above what we believe ourselves to be. Our behavior aligns with who we think we are.
Our actions conform to our self limiting labels.
Labeling is a natural thing, as this is our way to compartmentalize. However it can become very destructive if we believe a detrimental label.
Many labels are set upon us by other people, the most common are criminal, evil/bad, loser, addict, animalistic, and insane.
Once we believe we are one of these labels we get stuck in a self fulfilling prophecy. Which only reaffirms we are that negative label.
It goes something like this. I do something stupid and I get busted for committing a crime. I feel like a criminal and most of the evidence confirms that belief.
What is going to happen if I accept the identity of a criminal? I’m going to commit more crimes. Cheaters cheat, losers lose, criminals commit crimes, and addicts use.
Do you see who these labels set us up to endure a cycle of pain. Instead of being a human that makes mistakes, you become an evil man that does evil things.
Part of this new identity in Christ is letting go of the old ways you used to define who you are.
This episode is all about challenging those detrimental labels.

This podcast is a place for Christian men in recovery who want to live an abundant life. You may be addicted to porn hub or kinky love, cheap thrills, or a bottle of pills. Maybe it’s weed or smoking speed, or you’re caught up in greed. It doesn’t matter if you've been through hell; haven’t we all been there as well.
