The MEN of INFLUENCE: TRANSFORMATION THROUGH MENTOR RELATIONSHIPS
Session 119 - Developing Discipline And Self-Control
In this week's lesson, I talk about "awareness of self-control," as a key to achieving your best state in terms of family, finances, fitness, and faith. With your thoughts and belief system, you may believe that you are not in control. But if you're not in control who is?
Having self-control allows you to achieve your objectives in a much easier fashion.
Self-control lessens fear and uncertainties in life. If you have more discipline in earning money and responsibly spending it, you will not have to worry about crises and natural disasters.
Self-control frees you from addiction. If you believe that you have control in your actions, you will not relinquish control over to your vices.
With self-control comes more excellent mental health. Self-control reduces your cognitive dissonance and allows you to appreciate yourself more.
Self-control gives you greater intimacy inside of relationships. You will have meaningful relationships once you learn to control your sexual desires.
Self-control increases self-fulfillment in life. Once you have identified your goals in life, you will do something about it when you realize you are in control.
Are You In Control Of Your Life?
This question has theological applications that the speaker discussed.
Genesis 1:26 says that you are created in the image and likeness of God so you may have the rule over your realm; you must take responsibility.
The Parable of the Talents explains that men are supposed to use what God has placed in their hands.
Proverbs 16:32 reminds you it is better to have self-control than just to be powerful.
1 Corinthians 9:25 motivates you to strive for mastery. Make efforts to be elite.
1 Corinthians 9:26 tells you that you are not purposeless.
James 1:13 evokes you that God cannot be tempted, and he will never tempt you.
Embodying Self-Control
Always remember that you are born with free-will, and therefore, you are responsible for your actions. Submit yourself unto God. Establish what you want. Align your actions with your core values and belief system and always hold on to your ‘why.’
