"At the centre of ancient Gnosticism is the experience of gnosis; a silent knowing of God that gives rise to an unshakeable faith in the essential goodness of existence. With the experience of gnosis comes the discovery of the ‘Christ within’. This is our spiritual essence that is one with God.
In the East it is called the atman or buddha-nature. I call it the 'deep self'. It is our deepest being which is one with all beings. With the knowledge that all is one comes the experience of all-encompassing love the Gnostics call agape. I call it ‘big love’, because it is so very big.
It is an exquisite feeling that reaches right down into the body. It’s a love so strong it can sustain us through the horrors of life. It is a love so unconditional we can even love our enemies."
Those Great words were by author and Gnostic scholar, Tim Freke who I have the pleasure of interviewing in this episode of the Gnostic Warrior Radio Show and Podcast. Tim is the author of well over a dozen books such as his Gnostic masterpiece, The Jesus Mysteries which tells the story of Jesus is a myth and the real story of his life encodes mystical teachings that lead to Gnosis or spiritual awakening.
In this podcast, we discuss Great Work over the years and his thoughts on Gnosis. We also talk about his conscious expanding new book called, Deep Awake: Wake Up to Oneness and Celebrate Your Individuality.
Tim explains the main philosophical concepts behind the deep awake and that the experience in life depends on how conscious we are. When we only pay attention to the surface of life we're only superficially awake. But when we look deeper we can become deep awake. He says that a person can celebrate their oneness and individuality, while still creating a unified world of love and oneness.
An experience that we can compare someone who is a Gnostic - a person who is deep awake if they truly walk the path of Gnosis.
