March 20, 2022

When you want someone to succeed, you wish them Luck. But it’s taken more than luck to grow a thriving aggregates business and keep leadership in the family for nearly 100 years. Luck Companies has done that, and it takes a lot of planning!

You may know Luck Companies for its most high-profile brand, Luck Stone. The quarry and aggregates company was launched in 1923 in Virginia by Charles Luck Junior, but now owns properties in 3 divisions across the Southeast. After the company passed to Charles Luck the Third and then to Charles Luck the Fourth, the family realized it had to plan well for succession – whether it was to one of their own children, or someone else suited for the role. Charlie Luck IV is still in charge but his son, Richard Luck, has risen through the ranks to the General Manager’s role. He joins us today on Give Us the Dirt Podcast to talk about ‘family values’ that makes a company successful for four generations or more.
