Hurricane talk for Florida Gators/LSU postponement: Podcast

October 07, 2016

Gator Country brings you a new podcast as we breakdown the postponement of the Florida Gators game against LSU and what this means going forward.

Andrew Spivey and Nick de la Torre break down what the Gators options were and when the game could possibly be played down the stretch.

Andrew and Nick also predict some of the key games around the country this weekend, plus talk a little playoff baseball.

TRANSCRIPT:

Andrew:What’s up, Gator Country? Your man, Andrew Spivey, here with Nicholas de la Torre. Nicholas, it’s Friday. We’re not doing a prediction podcast. Instead, we’re talking about a massive hurricane coming this way, and a postponement in a game. Much like any Florida/LSU game, it has storylines and plenty of noise.
Nick:I think there’s more trash being talked right now than there was, more trash being talked about the game not being played than if the game were to be played.
Andrew:It wouldn’t be Florida/LSU if it wasn’t some kind of controversy. Treon being suspended. Grier being suspended. Now this game being postponed. What happens next year?
Nick:Stop it. Don’t do that to me. There is never a dull moment when you cover the Florida Gators.
Andrew:Especially this Florida/LSU game.
Nick:Maybe it’s some of that voodoo. What do they do down there?
Andrew:I don’t know. It’s something crazy. Something crazy going on down there. Let’s just dive right on into this game, because there is a lot of shit being talked between the two schools. I guess, both schools do have an argument of this. I don’t know. We’ll just throw it out. LSU had offered for Florida to go play the game in Baton Rouge, of course they did. It was going to be an extra home game for them.
Nick:Listen, the reason we’re not playing football this weekend is because Florida didn’t go to Baton Rouge. I can’t blame them for not wanting to do that, but that’s the reason. We weren’t going to play. The way it started to look Wednesday, we weren’t going to play football in Gainesville. It just wasn’t going to happen.
Andrew:According to you, Mr. Weather Man, you said Florida was…
Nick:I am a noted and celebrated amateur meteorologist.
Andrew:Then you wrong, like a regular meteorologist, because you called me crazy when I told you on Monday and Tuesday this game was not happening in Gainesville. You said, “We’re prepared.” Well, you were wrong.
Nick:It’s not the first time.
Andrew:Yeah. I mean, you’re right. Florida didn’t go to Baton Rouge. That’s why the game’s not being played. Now, I don’t blame Florida for not going to Baton Rouge. They lose a home game, you play in LSU three straight years, you lose your biggest recruiting weekend. You lose the home game. You take your team there, you’re in a no win for Florida. LSU, their fans are saying, “We were trying to be nice.” Of course you were, you’re about to get a home game. Let’s not act like you were about to give your second born kid or your kidney to someone. You were offering to host the game, so you could get a home game in Baton Rouge.
Nick:Yeah. What does LSU stand to lose by getting the game at home?
Andrew:Exactly. Nothing. Here’s the thing. Now LSU is the bad guy in the situation as the world turns, because now Florida has offered to cancel the Presbyterian game, allow LSU to come in on November 19 and cancel their South Alabama game, which my Jags would probably win, but anyway. They don’t want to cancel the game, because they would lose money, plus they would be traveling three straight weekends within a 12 day period. So they’re saying they’re not doing it. They’re refusing to do it. So it kind of looks like this game is not going to be played. Now, I agree with LSU not wanting to lose their home game, not wanting to go three straight weekends, but it’s the way things go.
Nick:From a Florida standpoint, Jeremy Foley made it a point to say, “Listen, this isn’t about money. It’s not about paying schools to move a
