GameTime Cleveland 170: Browns Fall to Ravens

September 16, 2013
Summary:

The Indians are within one half game of a Wildcard spot with two weeks to play in the season. Can they win back some fans and make that push into the post season? Meanwhile, the Buckeyes rout Cal with a backup QB. And the Browns outcome against Baltimore is all too familiar. It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 46:02

1Q: Indians still battling for Wildcard

  • Like it or not, the Indians are still right there for the Wildcard.

  • .5 GB Texas and Tampa for the Wildcard.

  • 5 GB Detroit in the AL Central

  • Ubaldo has been pitching well since Masterson went down with injury.

    • Jimenez is 5-5 with a 1.82 ERA since the All-Star break.

    • In his last five starts, he’s gone gone 3-2 while allowing six earned runs, 32 hits and six walks with 42 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings.

  • Fans still not showing up (<9,000 announced at a game on last homestand).

  • Tribe swept the lowly WhiteSox over the weekend.

  • Remaining schedule: 3 @KC, 4 vs HOU, 2 vs CHISOX, 4 @ Minn

2Q: OSU Wallops California

  • The Buckeyes crushed the Golden Bears 52-34.

  • Kenny Guiton made his first start and made us hardly miss Braxton Miller (sprained left knee). He was 21-32 for 276yds, 4 TDs and 0 INTs. Rushed 14 for 92 yards

  • Jordan Hall was 30-168 on the ground with 3 TDs.

  • Jumped to early lead (90yd TD pass, 47 yd TD pass, 1yd TD pass) in first 6 mins.

  • Teams essentially traded scores after that. Cal has a good offense. Jared Goff is a pretty good QB and only a freshman.

  • Lot of points b/c both teams were using no huddle for much of the game. OSU’s depth at bringing in fresh pass rushers helped.

  • Team has longest winning streak of all FBS teams at 15 games. We go back home to host Florida A&M on Saturday before opening the Big Ten schedule with Wisconsin in two weeks.

3Q: Browns Can’t Muster any Offense

  • Browns fall to Baltimore 14-6 to drop to 0-2.

  • Plenty of blame to go around on the offense.

  • Trent Richardson got the ball 18 times, but amassed only a measly 58 yards. What is his problem? Too slow? Can’t find the holes?

  • Offensive line wasn’t creating many holes and they weren’t keeping their QB upright either.

  • Little has shown us enough now. He needs to go. But there’s no one to replace him around here.

  • Jordan Cameron was pretty quiet except for one deep catch on a Weeden rollout.

  • Weeden had three delay of game penalties (4th was saved by a timeout).

  • He didn’t throw any INTs, which is good. But there is not enough talent on this offense.

4Q: When you give up 14 points, you should win

  • The defense has been good for two weeks now. If you hold a team under 20 points, you should win. Our offense has managed 10 and 6 points to start the season now.

  • Mingo had a nice game in his NFL debut.

  • Defense pretty good against the run again (Rice was only 13 for 36 yds on the ground).

  • Minnesota is also 0-2. But they’ve put up a lot of points in losing their first two games.

  • Adrian Peterson against our run defense should be a good test.

  • Ponder doesn’t scare us. He’ll be one of the worst QBs we’ll face this year (JAX, too).
