GameTime Cleveland 168: Injuries Mount for Browns

August 20, 2013
Summary:

The Browns look good again in beating the Lions. They may have found their starting QB, but the injuries are starting to become a real problem. We’ll talk about the Browns and look ahead to the Buckeyes season with their new-look offense. It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 42:25

1Q: Browns Look Good Against Lions

  • Browns won 24-6.

  • Weeden’s QB rating was actually higher than in week 1. QB looked sharp and had some good connections with TE Jordan Cameron.

  • Trent Richardson played a little bit. He took a nasty sideline hit from Ndamakung Suh but bounced right up.

  • Backup RB Dion Lewis suffered a season-ending leg injury.

  • Top draft pick Barkevius Mingo had a scary lung injury. Not sure when it happened, but could have been fatal. He coughed up blood after the opening kickoff.

  • Other injuries:

  • Defense shut down the Lions, who played pretty vanilla and were without Megatron WR Calvin Johnson. Expect a different Lions team when we meet again in October.

2Q: Browns injuries mount in the win

  • After injuries to Shawn Lavao and Jason Pinkston, the Browns are thin at Guard. So on Monday they traded for Seattle G John Moffitt. But Tuesday, they nixed this trade due to health concerns about Moffitt, so he went back to Seattle (only momentarily, because they then sent him to Denver). We get DL Brian Sanford back.

  • So, until another signing/trade occurs, 7th Rd pick Garrett Gilkey will be counted on to fill in for Lavao and Pinkston.

  • Next up: At the Colts on Saturday night. They looked good against the Giants last week. This is the normal “tune up†game where the starters will play for 3 quarters.

3Q: Buckeyes

  • Ranked #2 in the PreSeason Poll (behind BCS Champ Alabama)

  • More suspensions announced.

    • Jr. CB Bradley Roby &  Jr. RB Rod Smith suspended for 1 game.

    • They join Sr. RB Carlos Hyde (three games), Fr. TE Marcus Baugh (one game) and So. CB Najee Murray (indefinite) to make five Buckeyes who will sit out the opener.

  • There will be a new look offense this year in Columbus.

4Q: More Buckeyes
