Typical camp meetings were held in an area where people would travel from a large region to a campsite for the "camp meeting".They would listen to itinerant preachers, pray, sing hymns, fellowship, and a bit of a vacation from the hard work of the farms. As much a community event as a religious one. A regular event in the Leicester community outside of Asheville NC every year in 1889 a disagreement and scuffle lead to the death of one man.
