Student Financial Aid News
+ "Presidents of three community colleges in Western Massachusetts last week took a united stand in favor of increased state financial aid," reports The Republican. "They said that some students are already cutting back on their course loads because of a lack of funds. Community college costs almost $3,000 a year, not including the now-mandatory $833 annual health insurance for students not covered. At the three area colleges, about half of all students receive some form of financial aid."
+ Things like annual health insurance can be included in private student loans - anything to the cost of education

+ Education is one of the footballs being punted around in politics as the 2006 midterm elections are less than a week away
+ Question 1, known as the Education First Amendment, would require the Nevada Legislature to fund the public education system of the state before any other spending bills are passed.
+ No matter your personal political stance, please vote. Ideally, vote for the candidate who is most supportive of higher education, whoever that may be.
+ A report released today by the U.S. Education Department provides an abundance of data about people in 2003 who received their bachelorâs degrees in 1992-93. The report, âWhere Are They Now? A Description of 1992-93 Bachelorâs Degree Recipients 10 Years Later,â was issued by the departmentâs National Center for Education Statistics. Among other information, the report says that 40 percent of the 1992-93 group had received or was pursuing a graduate or professional degree by 2003, and the vast majority were employed full time. Nearly 80 percent of the people surveyed also said that their college studies had prepared them well for their careers, and 90 percent said getting a bachelorâs degree had been worth it.
