Mold, Mycotoxins and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
I want you to have some detailed information about mold because it’s presence in your life can have a lot to do with whether healing is going to be easy or hard for you. (*Always, it is critical that we live, work and play with the most hospitable, health-producing environmental factors going on in and around us. If not, we have significant roadblocks to health even before we can get started with the healing process. We needs fresh, clean air devoid of lots of dust, mold or unhealthy particulates or gases.)
Now most of us have a conception of what mold is. You can smell it for one thing. For some people who suffer with a compromised immune system, such as those people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, being in the presence of mold may make you feel “bad”. It can generate a stuffy nose or a runny nose, scratchy eyes, itchy skin, chills, fever, or other symptoms. Being around mold may feel undesirable, dangerous or trigger real fight or flight symptoms for some particularly sensitive people. You want out of there!
Why and how does such a reaction occur? Possibly because mold creates an unhealthy environment for the body. Yes, on some level, you actually sense that you’re in an environment that is not conducive to good, long-term health. The fact is, it’s simply not good to be in the presence of lots of mold for very long. Typically people with a compromised immune system are the first to react. But instead of being aware of an abrupt symptom, they may feel more lethargic, fuzzy-headed or unable to figure out what is going on (even though they know something is surely happening to them and it doesn’t feel good).
The topic of mycotoxins and mold is surely one of value to people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and similar illnesses. Let’s explore it today, learn more about the two terms and even check out a key piece of research on this important topic. If you don’t learn the real facts about mold and mycotoxins, you won’t be able to formulate your own plan of what to do.
The word mycotoxin comes from the Greek and includes two derivative parts:
- Mykes or mukos means fungus. Therefore, we think first of mold, a part of the fungi kingdom.
- Toxicon means poison.
The term ‘mycotoxin‘ is usually reserved for the toxic chemical products produced by fungi that readily colonize crops.
One mold species may produce many different mycotoxins, and the same mycotoxin may be produced by several species.
Yikes…this is confusing. As you can see in these two examples, the topic of mycotoxins is very complicated. That makes this even more important when a disease state like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is present, too. More research is needed as to cause, reaction, treatment and possible complications for people suffering with a diagnosis of multiple chemical sensitivity.
Several key factors are developing within the research body of knowledge about mycotoxins.
- One, it is now hypothesized that different pathogens can trigger a disease or diseases which have certain symptoms in common.
- Two, these same pathogens can also cause an existing disease state to worsen or combine with other pathogens to cause a very negative situation.
If you suffer with a mold allergy, you worry about mycotoxins in your environment or you’ve been told that you now have a full-blown case of multiple chemical sensitivity, it behooves you to keep on adding to your body of knowledge about this topic. Can you find healing from these things? Is it even possible? Absolutely, but until then, you are wise to know as many facts as possible about what you’re dealing with.
Check out a great resource with details about this topic at Toxins, 2013. Let me know what you think about this information and if you want more about it covered in the future. The best way to do that is to leave a comment below. When you’re finished, “share” with blog post and podcast on Facebook, Twitter and such. Each time you contact the Health Matters Show, share your thoughts or send this information out further into the Internet, you leave your own personal contribution to the cause about the importance of learning more about mold, mycotoxins and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. We fight these battles together.
