Episode 23 - Smart Softball - Duggan Moran Throw Harder with Crossover Symmetry

February 12, 2015

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure†– Colin Powell

Duggan Moran, President of Crossover Symmetry chats on the Smart Softball podcast on best practices to strengthening the arm, scapular stabilizing muscles, and muscles that support the rotator cuff. Duggan partnered with his father Jim Moran, physical therapist/shoulder specialist to develop a unique program to strengthen and protect the muscles that support throwing (scapular stabilizing muscles, rotator cuff). The Crossover Symmetry program has been refined and tested with a variety of athletes from baseball, football, swimming, tennis, softball, and cross fit.

By the end of 2009 Crossover Symmetry was considered the “Gold Standard†for shoulder care in the baseball community and was widely being used in the rehab centers throughout the country.  Over half of MLB organizations, several teams in the NFL, NBA and NHL, and about 70% of NCAA Division-1 teams were all using the Crossover Symmetry System with their athletes. It was around this time they began working on a new protocol the strengthening the scapular stabilizing muscles.  The Crossover Symmetry team saw a need for an intense strengthening program that targeted the key scapular stabilizers, the foundation of the shoulder. Research showed an alarming number of athletes and patients with scapular dyskinesis, which is the dysfunctional positioning and movement of the scapula (shoulder blade). By strengthening the stabilizing muscles that control the scapula, they knew athletes would see performance gains and significantly reduce the risk of injury. With continued refinement and testing, IRON SCAP was unveiled in 2011.

In 2014, they launched their updated and enhanced Crossover Symmetry Gen-2 System as well as the H.I.I.T System (High Intensity Interval Training), which is tailored for functional fitness.  These new systems are the culmination of over a decade of research and development.  The systems meet the criteria of any Crossover Symmetry product: they are research supported, practical, structured and efficient.  Put these criteria together and you have a system that will actually get used.
