THE BEST NEWS EVER – Told by Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus

As we stood outside the tomb, discussing what to do next, another strange man approached us. We thought perhaps he was the gardener, coming to find out why we were here so early in the morning.

“Excuse me, ladies. I couldn’t help but overhear you crying. Is there something I can help you with?” The voice sounded slightly familiar, but I couldn’t remember where I had heard it before. I looked up to meet his gaze, shielding my eyes from the bright sunlight behind him. “Hello, Mary,” he said with a grin and a twinkle in his eye.

“Jesus!” I gasped and fell to my knees. “Oh, Teacher! Is that really you?” I clung to the man’s feet, desperately hoping that this was not all a dream. 

Jesus knelt down, lifted my face to meet his gaze again, and brushed a tear away from my cheek. “It’s really me,” he said in a voice that filled me with all the assurance I would ever need. A sob of pure joy caught in my throat. I could feel warmth spreading throughout my body. A smile spread across my face, and tears of joy spilled from my eyes. My Lord. My Jesus. Alive again! My heart felt as if it would burst.

Jesus stood and addressed the rest of the group of women. “My dear friends! It is so good to see all of you!”

 Some of the other women were still looking pale, as if they were talking to a ghost. 

“It’s okay… don’t be afraid!” Jesus reassured them. “I need you to go and find my other disciples, and tell them everything that you have seen and heard. Tell them that I will soon appear to them as well!”
