Today’s text is for Palm Sunday, so of course we are discussing Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The text is Matthew chapter 21 verses one through 11. It was a great moment of religious fervor and religious zealotry.

People had lined up on both sides of the road to see their hero heading in for a big show. Cheers, screams, clapping, stomping hands, reaching out desperately to touch, trying to reach the hero as he passed by.

The triumphal entry leading up to the crucifixion raises questions about our motives, our faith, and what and who we want Jesus to be compared to.
