We discuss a well-known parable featuring a rich man who cannot seem to express even the slightest amount of compassion for a poor man. In fact, the poor man is largely unseen by the rich man until they both die, sending the poor man to heaven and the rich man to hell — a reversal of their previous positions. We discuss the incredible inequities of our era, wondering how we and the church might bring a return to the care for the poor that Jesus demands.
