HIV and COVID-19: The Data and The Real World
What do the currently published findings say about the effects of the COVID pandemic on people living with HIV? How is the pandemic affecting patients and clinicians in HIV care delivery and the health of people living with HIV?That’s the dual focus of this eHIV Review Special Edition issue. Matthew Spinelli, MD, MAS, assistant professor in the Division of HIV, ID, and Global Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and San Francisco General Hospital, analyzes the current literature that addresses these questions, and then speaks directly with front-line clinicians about what they’re experiencing as they navigate a disrupted health care system. In addition to presenting his analysis of the data-driven evidence describing the effects of the COVID-19 virus on people with living with HIV, Dr. Spinelli also spoke directly with front-line clinicians to learn about what they’ve been experiencing as they work to maintain their patients’ health in this disrupted health care system.
