Peter Hackney - City News
The editor of Sydney’s independent inner city weekly newspaper City News, Peter is an expert on inner city politics and an experienced reporter of local community, government and business issues.
A Queenslander by birth, Peter was drawn to Sydney by the Olympic flame in the year 2000 and has been in love with the city ever since.
“Nowhere else offers the same unique combination of vibrant economy, natural beauty, pumping street life and quirky, independent culture,†he says. Although that doesn’t stop him going for Queensland in the State of Origin!
He is particularly passionate about the multicultural, multi-ethnic nature of Sydney and the way it’s become a true crossroads of the world.
When not reporting on Harbour City happenings, Peter might be found bushwalking in the Blue Mountains, snorkeling at Clovelly, browsing one of Newtown or Glebe’s bookshops, or maybe having a Scotch and Soda in one of Sydney’s cosy small bars.
His favourite book is Sydney by Jan Morris.

Andzej Gospodarczyk - Ryoho Yoga
Andzej studied in Japan for a year on the invitation of his principal teacher, Masahiro Oki after meeting him in Australia in 1977. Master Oki was a Zen monk, one of the last traditional Samurai warriors and the tutor of the Japanese Emperor’s children. He was renowned for his personal Yoga training system – called Okido – that focused on meditation and special corrective exercises called Shuseiho. In Japan, Andzej also studied macrobiotic nutrition with Lima Oshawa and Shiatsu with Shizuto Masunaga – the man credited with bringing Shiatsu to a standard high enough to be a medically accepted system in Asia and Europe. Andzej also studied traditional Indian hatha yoga in Tokyo andOsaka with B.K.S. Iyengar and, after training with Dame Margot Fontaine in London, he became the Australian Ballet’s chief therapist for many years specialising in injury therapyand recovery.
On returning to Australia, Andzej opened the Zen Shiatsu Centre in Sydney in 1982. Dealing not only with natural therapies but ‘lifestyle medicine’ built on the premise that prevention is more logical than cure and that health is much more than just an absence of illness, the Centre was the first of its kind in Australia.
In the early 1980’s Andzej was invited by the Australian Natural Therapies Association (ANTA) to establish their first two-year Diploma course in Body Work and Nutrition. Shortly after he consulted to ANTA on defining modalities and setting standards for health practitioners in Australia. The Zen Shiatsu Centre was also used by Shiatsu Therapists Association of Australia (STAA) to set both curriculum and standards for all Shiatsu education and practise in Australia. Over the last 20 years he has run his own private practice and yoga retreats with Lisa Foster in Sydney, the Upper Hunter Valley and now Queensland’s Gold Coast. He also runs the Ryoho Functional Yoga Centre and Collegeand has trained hundreds of Shiatsu practitioners and Ryoho Therapy teachers.
