The Berne Podcast with Dr. Sam Berne

Beyond the Brain: The Somatic AI Interface
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping how we think, work, and create. But what if the missing link isn’t more tech — it’s more embodiment?
Welcome to Beyond the Lens, the podcast where AI meets Somatic Intelligence. Hosted by Dr. Sam Berne — a visionary eye doctor turned AI strategist and somatic educator — this show explores how the convergence of cutting-edge tech and ancient body wisdom can awaken human potential, revolutionize leadership, and transform our lives. Each episode dives deep into AI trends, somatic practices, nervous system regulation, and future-of-work insights — with thought-provoking interviews, practical tools, and reflections on Dr. Berne’s new book:

Hey everyone, welcome to the program today. A few announcements. So July 17th is the big day. I will be launching my new documentary called Beyond Sight. And this is something that I’ve been working on for many years. It’s a heartfelt story following a few of my patients. There’s going to be some really ⁓ moving testimonials and
Not only that I’m going to be talking about latest trends in neuroscience as it relates to vision. I’m also going to put in a few things about aromatherapy and frankincense. We’re getting a lot of ⁓ interest in aromatherapy. I’m an aromatherapist and Facebook, especially people are really into some of the content that I presented. So I’m going to put a little bit of that in the documentary. Anyway, you don’t want to miss it. You’ll be able to stream it.
from drsamburn.com. We’ll put it out through our social media channels, my newsletter and other avenues as well. You can stream it. You can buy it and it’s really worth it. It’s such a great ⁓ compilation of things that I’ve done over the last 40 years around July 14th. I’m going to launch my new book on artificial intelligence.
This is called Beyond the Lens and it’s a playbook about artificial intelligence, especially for entrepreneurs and business leaders. You probably wonder why in the heck would I want to write a book about AI. Well back in 2017, I started my social media brand went through many different lifetimes working with products working with different people in
a variety of different ways and became quite an international success. So I was asked by a nonprofit to do some coaching for entrepreneurs, especially in the area of social media marketing and other things and I began to research artificial intelligence back then and ⁓ so I wrote a book about it and I since then I’ve left the nonprofit and I’m doing some coaching for
young entrepreneurs, people who want to get started have their own voice, their own creativity. And so this book on artificial intelligence is really good. In fact, what I’ve done is I’m combining artificial intelligence with something called somatic intelligence. And I’m going to talk a little bit about that. That’s going to be the the basis of our podcast today. And so it brings in vision, but it brings in the body and
our body intelligence and how you blend that with artificial intelligence. So anyway, this book is out. It’s on Amazon. It’s an ebook right now. I’m probably going to do a paperback as well. You can get it on Amazon and we’d love to get your feedback on it. Now I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who’s a body worker and she’s like, well, what’s the difference between artificial intelligence and somatic intelligence?
And where do they meet in the middle? I thought was a great question. And so when I began thinking about artificial intelligence, let me give you that definition better known as AI. This is a group of algorithms and data that comes together to work a little bit like the human mind. AI recognizes patterns from data that has been imported into it making predictive
Suggestions the way I think about AI as a partner in strategy. I might have a dialogue or ask questions. I’m always checking in with myself to see well, how does that feel in my gut? Is that really true? Or is it something that you know, AI is really off and we know that AI automates many things workflows statistics graphs and tables found that it actually helps increase performance.
You can make decisions better and faster by collecting more data. But the one thing AI can’t do is it can’t sense or feel like us. I define somatic intelligence is our body’s inner compass, our inner GPS system. If you will, it’s real-time information that flows through our nervous system, our body tissues, our fluid body, our organs, our glands, and we start getting physical cues like
my chest is getting tight or I’m getting butterflies in my stomach or I’m feeling a bit nauseous or it might be something like I’m feeling a lot of bliss. My intuition is really connected. I’m in a flow state. I’m attracting the things that I need to or want to as I move forward in my soul development. Now, here’s where the magic happens. What happens when AI and our body intelligence?
intersect. Well, first of all, AI really operates in our head. Whereas our somatic intelligence operates in our whole body. Let’s say we’re in adrenal burnout. Well, we’re probably not going to be in alignment with what we’re supposed to be doing. But when you combine AI with visual and body cues and we are lined up, we feel really good. Then this is where we can combine using the data.
the information we get from AI, we put it into our body intelligence. How does it feel? What do we see? What do we feel? How is this going to work? Then you’ve got the answer. You now have an embodied answer. A lot of people I meet in business, the entrepreneurs, they’re just data-driven left brain, but somatic intelligence requires the right brain are intuitive creative receptive. So when you come together in a whole brain, I think of AI is the left brain.
and body intelligence somatic intelligence as the right brain. Now you are whole brain. So I think the first step in this is to really invite AI into your life. So many people I talked to are very negative about AI. Hey, it’s here. It’s already in our fabric. So we need to learn to use it as a partner. So the question becomes how do we develop better body?
Intelligence somatic intelligence. Well, I’ve been doing that work for 40 years and it can start with things like a morning meditation doing some journaling some spiritual practices like yoga or Qi Gong or Tai Chi obviously spending part of your day out in nature. We get a reset getting regular body work like craniosacral or other kinds of body treatments to get you in touch with your body’s awareness.
And then it becomes practice where you play with AI with certain situations. You read it. You think about it. Then you put that into your body and you go. Well, how’s this feel? What am I noticing? What is coming up for me? Am I feeling some resistance? Am I getting tight in my solar plexus? You know, there’s cues body cues that you can start to see as you are using AI. So
I know we’re just talking but in our workshops what we do is we actually do a lot of somatic intelligence creation and then we start adding the AI and it’s beautiful. It really is amazing how people can use the AI data, but then they bring that information into their body and then they make the decision. So it’s getting the left brain and the right brain working together. If you want more information, I recommend my new book.
Beyond the lens. Also, you can contact me. have a website burn media group.com. You can send me an email if you want to do a session that would be really really powerful. It’s the way I work and it’s the way I’ve had my entrepreneurial clients work and it’s amazing when your whole body and whole brain it really allows you to get the most out of things. So that’s our show for today. I want to thank you so much for tuning in until next time. Take care.

Dr. Sam Berne has been in private practice in New Mexico for over 35 years and where he works with patients to improve their vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University, Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College, and did his postdoctoral work at the Gesell Institute in collaboration with Yale University. He has been awarded The Special Awards for Service from the Behavioral Optometrists in Mexico for his innovative and holistic work with children.
His protocols take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to health and wellness. He understands and treats the body as one integrated system rather than a collection of independent organs in order to identify and address the root causes of disease. His whole health protocols improve vision and wellness by healing the mind-body-spirit through nutritional protocols, vision therapy, and self-care techniques. This views each person as genetically and biochemically unique and enables the individual to make lifelong improvements to their well-being.
