Silent Night, Deadly Podcast: Ep16 – INSIDE (2007)

September 05, 2019

You asked for it, Dan Haggerty asked for it, Krampus’ mother asked for it, and now Dread Central is proud to present the year-round Christmas horror podcast you’ve long been waiting for… Silent Night, Deadly Podcast! Chris, Kieran, Matt, and Rob – collectively known as “The Jingle Boys” to some and “The Christmas Horribles” to others – are prepared to take you on one demented journey through a winter wonderland of the best and worst tinsel terror the big (and small) screen has to offer.

This week’s slice of Christmas terror is one of the bloodiest and most brutal that the sub-genre has to offer. 2007’s Inside was part of the new millennium's wave of extreme horror films from France that also includes High Tension (2003) and Martyrs (2008), but it’s the only one of the three to be set at Christmas time. In keeping with the tradition of the holiday, it features a pregnant woman who receives an unexpected visitor, but rather than bring her frankincense and myrrh this home invader comes armed with cutlery and a thirst for blood.

Directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury have made three more films since this one, but none can touch the intense ferocity of their debut. The boys are in agreement on that assessment with all four praising the film’s bloody practical effects too, but where do they stand on the movie also being dumb as French dirt? There’s only one way to find out. Stick your headphones over your ears, shove a candy cane in your mouth, and try not to cringe as the Jingle Boys go deep Inside.
