DOUG 001 – Intro to the Podcast

August 01, 2015

First episode of a new podcast! This podcast is designed to introduce you to a prayer practice call the Daily Office. It's found in the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer. A similar pattern of prayer is found in the Roman Catholic Church's Liturgy of the Hours, and in all sorts of monastic communities. The Daily Office is prayer during the day, every day. The prayer book gives us a structure for four prayer times during the day: Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline (bedtime or night prayer). These prayers can help anchor you in God by marking your day with little islands of devotion and reflection, and there's a structure to give you guidance for growth in the spiritual life. The Daily Office is fairly straightforward once you try it a few times, but it is complicated at first. This podcast will introduce you to the Offices in a progressive way. We'll build from the least complicated to the most complicated.
