EP 15 - HOW TO BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND NOW

May 24, 2018

EP 15 “ HOW TO BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND NOW”
Whether you like to believe it or not, you are already personally branded. My advice is if you don’t create a framework of who you are or who you want to be perceived as, the internet will to do a great job of that with or without your consent. You use the same amount of energy just using social media, be aware of your brand and manage it well. If you use social media for your business, church, or organization and don’t have your own personal accounts, your silence is telling people that you don’t have the desire to be relevant, to have authentic connection with the world around you, and that you just don’t care about community.

----------- Show Notes -----------
1 – How does a person identify vision statement/ mission statements of themselves, if they have never done it before? [21:16]

What do you value and what are you trying to accomplish in your life. I would take out a sheet of paper and start writing things I care about. Start circling things that have to do with the internal like, faith, generosity, quality time, then circle the things that have to do externally, earning money, community, profession, hobby. Start cutting out the things that don’t really matter, like keeping a record of Instagram posts or likes, pleasing people, allowing people to treat you less than…

Start building a list of what you want to put back into the world.
Art, Creativity, friendship, love…

Then write one sentence that clearly defines your message.
“I’m John and I’m obsessed with elevating other to tell their story through creative expressions.”

2 – What’s an easy way to build confidence to start branding yourself? [24:54]
The easiest and most efficient way to build self-confidence is giving yourself permission to fail.
Do things that make YOU happy and fill YOU up. Not what you feel others will enjoy. Stop living like you need to explain yourself or why you do things. If you’re mission is anything like mine, then your actions will show the ideas that you wrestle with.

3 – Is taking inspiration from others okay? What’s the best way to do that without becoming a carbon copy? [26:53]

I read this book Steal like an Artist a while back. I don’t read as much as I should, but I read this book in one day. Being inspired is great, you can be inspired many ways. I’m a filmmaker and photographer by default and I get inspired by waves crashing on the shore, or when I listen to a coldplay album, or when I’m walking through Disneyland without any type of agenda other than to breathe and explore. Steal what inspires you, and recreate it the way you would do it. Everything we are and do is a remix of all the years and upbringing of life.

4 – How much commitment does it take to brand yourself? [30:18]
A better question would be, how committed are you to living free, alive, and fully present? You ought to be committed to yourself fully. Social Media and the internet has already committed to building your identity for you since myspace. You can either take control of what people will find about you or let your brand unintentionally build itself through time.

5 –
