Now that we have calmed downed from an amazing Rio Olympics our thoughts turn to the Paralympic Games which have been beset with problems and concerns this year. Writing this post 2 weeks before the games open I am, of course, worried that they will not live up to the expectations raised by the magnificent 2012 London games but we have asked our expert Michelle Weltman from London Marathon to give us her take on the situation.
Michelle heads up the events at London Marathon and is very knowledgeable on Paralympic sport and gives us a helicopter view of what to expect in Rio. The UK is sending out a full contingent of athletes in a wide range of sports including athletics, canoeing, swimming, judo and archery and should bring back a healthy clutch of medals from the trip. It is a shame that Russia won't be present and that several other nations will have funding issues that are not their fault but even still it will be a sporting feast for all of us back home.
