Frank Castle’s (Jon Bernthal) divisive trial begins in New York as Nelson and Murdock Attornies at Law take on the District Attorney Samantha Reyes (Michelle Hurd) and ADA Blake Tower (Stephen Rider). However, their client refuses to play along with their legal strategy to cite post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a mitigating factor. As Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) develop a new defence strategy to destabilise the DA’s arguments, they hit on inconsistencies in the Medical Examiner’s report on the deaths of Frank’s family, as Castle indicates that the report has been doctored. All the while, Matt neglects his work on Castle’s case to continue moonlighting with Natchios as they investigate the Yakuza’s activities in New York. At a rail yard Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) is wounded by the Yakuza as her and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) investigate train cars full of dirt. After all the nighttime activity Matt is late to make his opening statement at Castle’s trial and a reluctant Nelson is forced to take over for him. Murdock’s relationship with Foggy deteriorates to breaking point as Foggy suggests to Matt that he leaves the Punisher case following revelations of his notornal work with Elektra. As Murdock struggles to balance his dual identities, Daredevil and Natchios follow-up on a lead to an abandoned warehouse where they make an unexpected and dark discovery.
