New all age comics for June 7

June 06, 2017

Wednesday is new comic book day; lots of great new comics will be at your local store then. In that group there will be dozens of great all age comics that will appeal to readers as young as 5. This week has a nice variety of comic books that are perfect for those road trips or rainy afternoons when kids just need a break from the heat. Some of the all age comics this week include the return of a classic, Bugs meets Supes, a graphic novel for tweens and a bi-monthly series that is more than its title.

Mighty Mouse
What to do when the world’s greatest hero is exiled to another dimension? But what if the other dimension is ours and said hero is a cartoon mouse? Mighty Mouse is back, revamped and ready save a whole new generation of boys and girls. This series is OK for ages 5 and up, but those younger readers will need help with the words.
The Adventures of John Blake
This is Phillip Pullman’s first graphic novel. This English author’s work is already known to many adult readers and The Adventures of John Blake has an old soul with graphic novel sensibilities. The Adventures of John Blake has illustrations by Fred Fordham. It’s beautifully drawn and has a story that’s equal parts pirate and time travel. The content and approach of the book is too much for younger readers, but will be appropriate for ages 11 and up.
Hero Cats
This bi-monthly series keeps getting better. Hero Cats are cats, but in issue #17, Skyworld they continue their fable stories in this second issue of the new story arc. We spoke recently with Kyle Puttkammer the creator of Hero Cats and that interview will be up very soon. This is one of those all age comics that is great for ages 5 and up.
DC Looney Tunes 100 Page Spectacular
This mini-series sounds like a blast. Two very different worlds, that of Bugs Bunny and the DC world of Superman meet for the first time. Bugs and company find themselves in the DCU and aren’t sure what to make of it. It’s up to Superman and Bugs to team up and make things right so that Acme and company can go about thwarting Wille E. Coyote. This was a 4-issue mini-series from 2000 that is reprinted for the first time.
Adventure Time
Who is the best Princess ever? Who is the best Princess in the Adventure Time world is a more appropriate thing to say. This monthly comic book series has original stories with art that is exactly as you like it from the television show. Adventure Time #65 has content that is ok for any age, but it might be too strange for kids under 8 to comprehend.
