In 1999 producer Joel Silver looked to expand his reach with theater goers, branching out into the horror genre with the creation of Dark Castle Entertainment. For his first foray under this new banner he enlisted director William Malone to helm a reimagining of a Vincent Price classic about human greed luring 5 unlucky souls to stay the night in a house consumed by malignant evil.
