In 2 Timothy 2:19-22, Paul is attempting to strengthen his son-in-the-faith, Timothy, as Timothy pastors the Church in Ephesus. Controversy, arguments, and false teaching by strong personalities (Hymenaeus and Philetus) had upset the faith of some in the Church.
