When Snowbirds Can't Fly
Most snowbirds come from Canada. Michigan, New York, and Ohio make up the next three states of snowbirds. These snowbirds will choose either Florida or Arizona for the winter. Also, Nevada and Texas are other big snowbird states. Snowbirds tend to be baby boomers between the ages of 55 and 75. Plus, they are well educated, financially secure, and active. The Canadian borders were closed in 2020; that is why many snowbirds couldn’t make it this winter season. The impact to the US economy was tragic. When you do a conversion, you take money out of an existing IRA and roll it into a Roth IRA. You have to wait five years to be able to have access to any of that money unless you are over 59.5. If you have earned income, and qualify based on income limits, you can contribute $7,000 to a Roth IRA. Ideally, it would be best if you made a contribution before you do a conversion.
