The Comedy-O-Rama Hour
A Camp Waterlogg Hide and Seek
"With portable digital recording, radio theater can now happen anywhere," says the veteran award-winning actor-writer-producer-director.
He adds, "The days of being stuck in a cold little studio with a script and a sound effects table are gone."
Now Joe Bev records scenes in Japanese restaurants while eating sushi, doing dishes, taking a bath, climbing a tree in the woods, giving the radio stories a real life.
Bev concludes, "We have been doing most these characters for more than 12 years now and some I have been voicing for more than 40 years. W no longer have to write what we want to say. The Comedy-O-Rama Hour has also evolved from a scripted to a fully improvised hour of radio theater."
On this week's show, "A Camp Waterlogg Hide'n'Seek"--which was recorded on location in Kansas City suburb Lenexa, Kansas--the Camp Waterlogg staff tries to please the son of a rich potential donor, Silvia Salvatore played by Jennye Rose, who's real son Van also plays her son on the show. Meanwhile, during a game of hide'n'seek, Peter Moss (Kenny Savoy) shows up and thinks the camp is deserted.
Bev is the voice of most of the characters on the show, including Sgt. Lefty, Ellis the Boatkeeper, Adam Maxwell, Lil Andy, Uncle Dunkle, Donnie and even a little girl named Wootsy. Kellogg's voices include Olive Pitts, Elise, Mrs. Terwilliger and a little girl named Lkie.
The hour also includes the story "Uncle Dunkle, Donnie and Wootsy" by Daws Butler, voiced entirely by Joe Bev, and "The Chair" by Pedro Pablo Sacristan, voiced by Kellogg and Bev.
Guest actors on The Comedy-O-Rama Hour have included David Ossman, Rick Overton, Julie Newmar, Bob Camp, Judy Tenuta, Al Franken, Shelley Berman, Lewis Black, Fred Frees, and Stuart Pankin.
