Camp Waterlogg: "Firesign Gets Waterlogged" with special guest star David Ossman as George Tirebiter

February 13, 2015
Firesign Theatre's David Ossman joins Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev) and Lorie Kellogg for the latest edition of the weekly radio comedy  theater hour.

In this brand new episode, Camp Waterlogg is in disarray since losing some of its staff, and Olive and Woody are AWOL, leaving Sgt. Lefty and a skeleton staff to clean up the mess! Enter George Tirebiter, Ranger Candidate Extraordinaire... to save the day?

Joe Bev portrays Sgt. Lefty, Ellis da Boatkeeper, Adam Maxwell, Woody, Cathy, and Andy, and other characters, as well as various announcers. Lorie Kellogg is heard as Olive Pitts, Elise, and Lkie, and other characters. George Tirebiter is played by David Ossman.

The Tirebiter "job interview" is heard in two parts, divided by Joe Bev performing all the characters in the Pedro Pablo Sacristan fable "The Two Spells" made in the style of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

The hour also includes Lorie Kellogg singing five songs from the "parody" album "Bob Dylan Does Mother Goose" (from the makers of the lethargically slow "real" album "Shadows in the Night" and "yet-to-be-made parody" album "Bob Dylan Sings Like Alfalfa as an Old Man").

Plus, more Professor Watchcamacallit's Intertitials with Fred Frees!

Producer-director Joe Bev(ilacqua) calls the new hour his best "Camp Waterlogg" chronicle yet, adding, "I was inspired by the presence of David Ossman, just as I was when Phil Proctor graced our show with his 'Tribute to Peter Bergman'. Without Firesign Theatre, there would be no Comedy-O-Rama."

The Comedy-O-Rama is story and character driven improvisation--recorded in and around their Napanoch, NY house in the woods--that goes beyond sketch comedy to blossom into full fledged radio theater. Husband and wife creative team Joe Bev and Lorie Kellogg created the series for XM Radio in 2002. 124 shows and 13 years later, the series is heard weekly on public radio stations nationwide, streamed on the web at http://www.bearmanormedia.com, and podcast anytime all over the Internet, including http://www.waterlogg.com.

David Ossman was one of the four founders of The Firesign Theatre in 1966 and has edited all their published works, including "Anythynge You Want To," "Exorcism In Your Daily Life" and "Profiles in Barbeque Sauce" for BearManor Media http://www.BearManorMedia.com (http://www.bearmanormedia.com/).

Also from BearManor, Ossman's "The Ronald Reagan Murder Case," featuring George Tirebiter, 1940s radio star and part-time detective, and "Dr. Firesign's Follies," a sort-of memoir.  He is presently engaged in writing a new, much expanded edition of "The Sullen Art," based on his 1960s radio interviews with new American poets and has a new book of political poems, "Marshmallows and Despair," coming this Fall.

David and his wife Judith Walcutt were given a Lifetime Achievement "Angie" Award from the International Mystery Writers Festival, for which they produced more than a dozen new plays, including works by Mary Higgins Clark, Ray Bradbury, Rupert Holmes and Agatha Christie's "The BBC Murders," an adaptation of four of Christie's radio mysteries.  David and Judith are best known for "The War of the World's 50th Anniversary Production," the first all-digital radio drama (1988), Norman Corwin's "We Hold These Truths" (1991), "The Empire of the Air - The Men Who Made Radio" (1992) and the all-star Centennial Production of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (2000).
