Coaching Minds with Justin Lewis
Episode 4: Joseph Blair, Rio Grande Valley Vipers
Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadToday’s conversation is a beast! I had the pleasure of talking to Joseph Blair from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA-D League. We get into all kinds of amazing things. JB has played all over the world. He played at the University of Arizona from 1993-1996 and went to a final four. He was the 35th pick of the draft in what is probably the best draft class ever…This draft included Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Steve Nash and many others. JB decided that the overseas route was best for him. He played overseas for ten seasons and was one of the first Americans to win a league MVP award. He was also the first American to sign a major endorsement deal.
I had no intention of talking about racism, but I’m glad we did. JB has a great perspective on the issue. Here is the link to the Jay Smooth video I talk about on racism…it’s amazing.
JB is a vegan and has great points that we should all think about…I haven’t had any meat since our talk…I’ll let you know how it goes! JB is an amazing leader who has done amazing charity work through his charity The Blair Charity Group.
Books we discussed. The Profit by Kahlil Gibran. The Circle Maker by Zondervan.
I’m excited to see where his coaching career takes him. He’s exactly the kind of coach I would want on my team! You can follow Big Sexy on Twitter and Instagram @BlairPlayer
