Mithridates the sixth was the king of Pontus, a mid-sized kingdom situated in what’s now northern Turkey. He’s also known as Mithridates the Great. And he was one of the few rulers in the Ancient world who were brave enough - or maybe crazy enough - to take on the mighty Roman Empire. During his reign, between 120 BC and 63 BC, Mithridates conquered vast territories in asia minor, taking lands that had belonged to the Romans.
