The Cinematography Podcast Episode 48

Ruben Fleischer began his career as a director's assistant to Miguel Arteda and making music videos like "Nada" by Gold Chains with DP Damian Acevedo. He worked his way up into directing bigger music videos and commercials before making a short comedy video called “Phone Tag” that went viral. Comedy Central hired him to make a series of comedy shorts, which caught the attention of Amy Pascal, the head of Sony Pictures at the time. Ruben landed his first big opportunity: directing Zombieland, which made over $100 million. Instead of taking big directing jobs after that, Ruben decided to stick with smaller films like 30 Minutes or Less and Gangster Squad. He turned to producing TV shows such as Superstore and Stumptown, before landing his first big-budget movie, Venom. Ruben Fleischer's latest movie Zombieland: Double Tap is out October 18th.
