CDC Finally Moves to Fund Gun Research
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have finally moved to increase funding for research in to gun violence and the impact it has on the lives of individuals and the vibrancy of our communities. The funding of this research has been blocked for years not by the CDC but by corrupt legislators who are worried that the results of the research will spur much needed regulation of guns in America. Over 100 people per day are killed by guns in America either through suicide, accidents, or crimes and despite all of this the gun lobby in Washington including the National Rifle Association have blocked this vital research.
There are very rudimentary questions that despite it being 2021 the CDC cannot answer and until recently was blocked from collected the data needed to find an answer. Unfortunately, data collection by the federal justice agencies is weak at best under the best circumstances. Now given all of the roadblocks the gun lobby has thrown up the CDC is going to have to force in new data collection methods and data reporting mandates on local justice agencies start to collect and report on gun data in the manner needed to empower the CDC to be as thorough as possible in their research.
