Paul Vallas, former CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, is a very frequent poster to social media and all too often those posts cover issues of crime and justice. Vallas also is volunteering his time to help the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in their negotiations with the city over their latest contract terms. It is an odd choice for Vallas given his absolute hatred for education related unions.

Vallas can speak intelligently about education and fiscal policy matters related to the city because of his experience in government but all too often his comments related to justice issues only seem to echo the political line of the FOP. An organization that has proven itself time and time again to be untrustworthy, radically against reform, and authoritarian as can be. Certainly not an organization that one would like to align themselves with for no good reason. Vallas of course, has a good reason. One of his children is a union member.

On today's show we feature part one of our interview with Paul Vallas. In this part we talk about the issue of the FOP, and Vallas, claiming the city is short of cops even though nobody seems to know how many police officers the city needs because they refuse to do the analysis needed. This includes the FOP who worries the analysis will show they need less officers.
