The American Chestnut tree used to stand strong in forests all across the eastern United States, and most predominantly in the Appalachian Mountains. These are where the last few original giants still stand untouched by ‘blight.’ Bill and Christopher bring Doug Gillis on to the show to discuss The American Chestnut Foundation and the work the organization does to educate the public on this once common resource and why it disappeared, as well as how new blight-resistant trees are being bred for the next generation of reforestation.
