How Automation Can Improve Campus Clery Compliance

January 07, 2015

Here's how UNC Greensboro uses a web application to improve Clery incident reporting and the quality of information in incident reports.Compliance with the Clery Act continues to pose challenges for American institutions of higher education, with all of its intricacies and reporting requirements. Many colleges and universities still rely on paper records and reporting instruments to achieve their compliance objectives.

Such was the case only a couple of years ago at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). UNCG Assistant Chief of Police Paul Lester knew he had to do something to make the compliance process easier and more straightforward. That’s when he partnered with Southern Software to create a web application so that he and his department could better manage their Clery and Title IX reporting activities.

In my interview with Paul, he describes how automation has helped UNCG get officers to record incidents properly as well as encourage Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) to report incidents, thus improving overall campus Clery compliance.

Paul also gives us some tips on how other campuses can automate their processes.
