Ebola Scare Can Be Teaching Exercise for Possible School Biological Incidents

Revise your pandemic flu plans to address Ebola concerns.The current Ebola outbreak in Africa has caused great alarm in our nation now that several individuals in the United States have contracted the disease. Because it has a 70% fatality rate, many Americans are concerned that an outbreak of this virus could happen in our country.

To determine the likelihood of this occuring, I’ve interviewed Dr. Sony Shephard of Safe Havens International. She has authored and co-authored 16 books about school safety, youth violence and crisis intervention. She has worked full time at the Georgia Division of Public Health and worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC). Sony now oversees all school public health projects globally for Safe Havens International.

She also covers some of the common mistakes schools and districts make when putting their plans together, in addition to the most important details school officials should consider.
