The Miracle - The Promise of the Manger

December 15, 2013

Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people.

The 500 year silence between the earth and God was broken at this moment when God orchestrated the time and the hour that the world will be blessed with the Messiah, Jesus the Savior of the world. God planned the setting, the place, and the country where Jesus was born so He could send the shepherds’ the sign of the fulfillment of the words of prophets of the birth of the Messiah.

Bethlehem’s the primary resource was sheep rearing. The shepherds were in the field tending to their flocks. He sent them the sign because they would understand what it meant immediately. Jesus was the lamb without blemish that had come to save the people from their sins. This physical analogy of the baby wrapped swaddling cloth lying in a manger signified that Jesus was the “ONEâ€. Just like the sheep, He would be sacrificed to cover our sins for good so that the relationship between God and man would be restored.

Why would God send a sign to the shepherds who had the lowest crank on the totem pole to give the message that the Savior was born? God chose the simple things of this world to confound the wise. God chose these men that were seen as very low in the hierarchy. They were always referred to as unclean because the slaughtered animals for a living and were hardly ever able to go to the Temple. God shows His glory through things that seem impossible to us so He may be glorified. Abraham, Moses, and David were all shepherds. Abraham represents the covenant of Blessing. Moses represents the covenant of Righteousness. David represents the covenant of Davidic to building the Temple-(House of God). Jesus has come to cover all the covenants of God. He has come to take away the sins of this world.

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. Ezekiel 36:26.
