On the Mind – Teaching w/Evangelist Cheryl Banks Hayes (S2 Ep2)

January 20, 2020

In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable.     –  Philippians 4:8
Evangelist Cheryl Banks Hayes of Mt. Airy Church of God and Christ, Philadelphia, PA, offers part one of two in the series exploring the impacts of mental health.  For the purposes of this exploration, mental health is related to how one trains their mind to focus ideas, thoughts and concerns that are good and deserve praise and to be uplifted.  God is very clear that and if we allow ourselves to be honest, we will agree that what we focus on, think, covet, eventually shows up in our actions, behavior, good or bad.  God offers the wisdom to train our minds to remain focused and connected to the thoughts and things that are pure and deserve our attention.

Once our attention, directed by our mind is skewed, how do we remain faithful to the journey that the Lord has set for us?  How do we break free from the mental chains of lies we feed ourselves?  How do we break the cycle of ill fated behavior and thoughts?  How to we restore our mental health to ensure seat at the feet of God remains secure?
Join Bridging the Gap Podcast and special guest Cheryl Banks Hayes to explore the role that strength in mental health along with faith in obedience in God offers.  Tune in next week for part two, dedicated to a Prayer for mental health.

2 Timothy 3
Remember that there will be difficult times in the last days. People will be selfish, greedy, boastful, and conceited; they will be insulting, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, and irreligious; they will be unkind, merciless, slanderers, violent, and fierce; they will hate the good; they will be treacherous, reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure rather than God; they will hold to the outward form of our religion, but reject its real power. Keep away from such people. Some of them go into people’s houses and gain control over weak women who are burdened by the guilt of their sins and driven by all kinds of desires, women who are always trying to learn but who can never come to know the truth.
