Halloween Movie Madness

For some reason this year, I’m really feeling the Halloween spirit more than ever. Maybe it’s the cooler air, leaves falling, or looking forward to wearing a fun costume and dressing up.

I did buy a fabulous new Halloween decoration. It’s a raven, perched on a skull, on top of an ancient-looking candlestick. Love it – thanks HomeGoods!

Today, we’re skipping the deep mystical discussions and diving into something that’s pure fun. I’m going to share 20 witchy, magical, and slightly spooky movies and shows that are perfect for this time of year.

Now, just between you and me, I’m not big on gory slasher films or horror movies. So, I won’t be recommending Bride of Chuckie or Scream 3. No worries there!

In addition to the movies and shows, I’ve included short descriptions and where to watch so you can curate your own October movie marathon. It’s time to have fun!

Cozy Witch Vibes & Everyday Magic 1. Practical Magic — HBO Max, Hulu

Two witchy sisters (Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman) try to navigate love, family curses, and small-town life with help from their eccentric aunts (Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest). Heartwarming, funny, and pure ’90s charm — plus, a sequel is on the way!

2. The Witches of Eastwick — HBO Max, Apple TV

Three best friends in a sleepy New England town (Cher, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer) discover their powers when the devilish Daryl Van Horne (Jack Nicholson) shows up. Sexy, witty, and full of dark humor. Perfect for your Halloween movie marathon.

3. Bell, Book, and Candle — Prime Video, YouTube

Kim Novak plays a Greenwich Village witch who enchants her neighbor (James Stewart) — only to fall for him and risk losing her powers. Stylish, funny, and perfect for vintage film lovers.

4. Stardust — Paramount+, Prime Video

A magical fairy-tale adventure where a young man crosses into a fantasy realm to retrieve a fallen star (Claire Danes), only to find she’s actually a woman — and being hunted by a glamorous witch (Michelle Pfeiffer). Romantic and full of wonder.

5. Always a Witch (Series) — Netflix

A 17th-century witch time-travels from Cartagena’s past to modern-day Colombia, trying to blend in, find love, and avoid being burned at the stake again. Light, charming, and beautifully shot.

Gothic & Mystical Tales 6. Mayfair Witches (Series) — AMC+

From Anne Rice’s novels, this haunting series follows neurosurgeon Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario), who discovers she’s heir to a dynasty of witches bound to a dark spirit named Lasher. Family secrets, Southern Gothic atmosphere, and old-world magic abound. This one is deal for a Halloween movie marathon.

7. Sleepy Hollow — Paramount+, Apple TV

Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, a quirky detective sent to investigate murders in the fog-filled town of Sleepy Hollow. Expect eerie forests, a headless horseman, and Christina Ricci’s haunting charm. A Halloween classic in my house.

8. Wicked (2024) — Prime Video, Apple TV

Before Dorothy ever landed in Oz, two witches forged an unlikely friendship that changed everything.  Elphaba (green skinned and misunderstood) became the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda (popular and sparkly), became the Good Witch of the North. This visual feast is the prequel and a heart-tugging re-imagining of good and evil.

9. The OA (Series) — Netflix

Equal parts mystical and mind-bending, this series follows Prairie Johnson, a blind woman who returns home after vanishing for seven years. Now, her sight has been restored in this story about interdimensional travel. It’s strange, soulful, and totally mesmerizing.

10. Good Omens (Series) — Prime Video

An angel (Michael Sheen) and a demon (David Tennant) form an unlikely alliance to prevent Armageddon. Smart, cosmic, and laugh-out-loud funny, this Neil Gaiman adaptation balances celestial chaos with a surprisingly tender friendship.

Time Travel, Love, and Other Dimensions 11. The Fountain — HBO Max, Apple TV

A visually stunning meditation on love, life, and rebirth. Hugh Jackman plays three versions of a man — a conquistador, a modern scientist, and a space traveler. In each life, he’s trying to save the woman he loves (Rachel Weisz). Deep, dreamy, and emotional that belongs in your Halloween movie marathon.

12. A Discovery of Witches (Series) — Shudder, AMC+

Historian Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) accidentally summons a long-lost magical manuscript, forcing her to embrace her witch heritage and ally with a vampire geneticist (Matthew Goode). Spellbinding, romantic, and steeped in ancient secrets.

13. Outlander (Series) — Netflix, Starz

A WWII nurse touches a standing stone in Scotland and finds herself in the 18th century — where she falls in love with Highland warrior Jamie Fraser. Sweeping, romantic, and rich in historical magic and danger.

14. Heaven Can Wait — Prime Video, Apple TV

A charming 1978 classic starring Warren Beatty as a football player taken to heaven too soon. He’s sent back in another man’s body to finish his life and maybe find love. Light, funny, and full of soul-swapping twists.

Darkly Fun Halloween Favorites 15. Hocus Pocus — Disney+

The Sanderson sisters (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) are accidentally resurrected in modern-day Salem, wreaking hilarious havoc on Halloween night. Silly, spooky, and endlessly quotable. A family favorite for your Halloween movie marathon.

16. The Addams Family — Paramount+, Prime Video

Gomez, Morticia, and their delightfully dark clan are tricked by a con man posing as long-lost Uncle Fester. Macabre humor and gothic style make this 1991 film a perennial favorite.

17. Wednesday (Series) — Netflix

The Addams Family’s deadpan daughter, Wednesday, gets her own spotlight. Sent to Nevermore Academy, Wednesday investigates a monster terrorizing her school, while juggling psychic visions and teenage angst. Jenna Ortega is perfect for this character.

18. Beetlejuice — HBO Max, Apple TV

A newly deceased couple hires the chaotic ghost Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to scare away the new family in their home. Part comedy, part nightmare, this Tim Burton brilliance has got to be part of your Halloween movie marathon.

19. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — Netflix, Prime Video

Decades later, Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) and her teenage daughter (Jenna Ortega) return to the family home – Winter River. Accidentally, they reopen the portal to the afterlife where the teenager ends up prematurely. Michael Keaton returns in full ghoulish glory to help with the rescue.

20. The Rocky Horror Picture Show — Hulu, Prime Video

No Halloween list is complete without this cult classic. When sweethearts Brad and Janet stumble into Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s bizarre mansion, they find themselves in a glittery, gender-bending, musical fever dream. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, many theaters are showing it again. (Maybe not with the same level of audience participation LOL.)

Whether you’re in the mood for cozy cottage-witch vibes, gothic fantasy, or all-out campy chaos, this list has something to serve your Halloween appetite. Light some candles, make popcorn, and allow a little magic fill the room.

Perhaps keep an eye out for any headless horsemen or dancing skeletons — you never know who might show up. LOL
