Stop the Healing Hamster Wheel: It’s Time for Real Transformation

March 07, 2025

In a world obsessed with self-improvement, it’s easy to get stuck in an endless cycle of healing. I recently sat down with Katie White to discuss how to break out of this never-ending loop and step into real transformation.

Addiction to Healing

The Katie WhiteI kicked kicked off our conversation with a bold statement from Katie’s newsletter: “Healing is not a full-time job.” Wow, did that hit me.

How many of you have made healing your personal life project? Chasing the next breakthrough and dissecting every trigger. Your convinced that if you just fix one more thing, you’ll finally be whole and happy

But what happens when healing becomes another form of self-imposed struggle? When there’s no end in sight to your healing journey or the start of your happiness?

Katie explained how the human brain can get addicted to the problem-solving process. It’s easy to get so caught up in “fixing” that you actually forget to live. This is like reliving the movie Groundhog Day where the same scenes repeat over and over again.

There you are doing all the energy work, all the inner digging, striving to heal, but seeing little change in your external world. Sound familiar?

Are You Stuck or Evolving?

Here’s the key difference: Transformation isn’t about constantly processing or healing. Nope, it’s about approaching life differently.

Katie shared a powerful example of a client who had done the deep work, unpacked her trauma, but still hesitated to step into the world. The shift didn’t happen through more healing sessions.

Instead, her long awaited shift occurred when she started recognizing and embracing new facets of herself, looking nad living beyond her wounds. That’s when real transformation kicked in.

What are the signs that you are evolving?

  • Your reactions change
  • Old triggers lose their grip
  • Instead of spiraling, you respond with more ease

If that’s not happening, it might be time to ask yourself, “Am I actually healing, or just looping?” Looping is when you are going in circles, working to heal the same thing again and again.

Who Are You Without the Struggle?

Breathe Love and Magic podcastOne of the most eye-opening moments in the conversation was when Katie called out the biggest block to transformation. She called it identity attachment.

Many people seem to unconsciously cling to their pain because it’s familiar. it becomes like a comfort zone. If you’ve spent years defining yourself by what you’ve been through, it can feel unsettling to ask, “Who am I without this story?”

Here’s the truth. Letting go of your trauma identity doesn’t mean you’re erasing your past. It means you’re making room for the expansive, multifaceted person you’re meant to be.

The Dreaded Question “What’s New?”

Ever struggle with the casual question friends or family often start a conversation with? “What’s new?” I cringe when I hear that question because I live a quiet life.

I feel this anxiety creep over me due to what I experience as social pressure. Am I supposed to have something profound to report? Like I should have a major life update to share when anyone poses that question.

While some people go on big trips, buy a new car, or luxury items, that’s not my life. There’snothing wrong with that, it’s just notwhat happens over here.

So when everyone starts talking about what’s new in their life what do I say? “I channelled Poseiden and we talked about the state of the oceans.” There’d be sirens headed my way with a straight jacket. LOL

Reframing Your Life

Breathe love and magic podcastHere’s a new thought—what if I’m over overcomplicating it? Katie reminded me that “newness” isn’t just about big, flashy changes. Something new can be in the small, subtle shifts or every day moments of my life.

For example, I might have a fresh perspective on something or explored a new area of ancient history. Maybe you changed how you’re eating, started a new exercise regimine, or made some new recipes.

This really is a case of reframing. For one thing, I am always learning, so I can talk about what I hve discovered. Surprisingly, the little things count far more than the credit I give them! Hear more about the power of reframing.

Outgrowing Friends Is Normal

Another hard truth about life and friendship is that: as you evolve, not everyone will come with you. Recently, I discovered that is actually NORMAL. Mel Robbins, in her podcast just had an episode about the three pillars of adult friendship. She says expect things to change. Thanks Mel!

Katie pointed out that friendships and social circles are meant to be fluid. People enter our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. If certain relationships start feeling misaligned, it’s not a failure—it’s a sign of growth.

Give yourself permission to seek connections that resonate with who you are today, not just who you used to be.

Find Joy in the Small Stuff

The Katie WhiteWe wrapped up with the simplest, yet most profound realization: life isn’t just about the big triumphs. Joy is in the small moments that happen while you wait for the big moments like graduation, getting married, the birth of a baby etc.

Magic can often be found in the seemingly mundane. These are all perfect examples of where you can find joy and magic in any day:

  • The warmth of the sun on your face
  • Your first sip of coffee in the morning
  • How your favorite song hits just right
  • A great catch-up conversation
  • A hummingbird flying by
  • Sharing a memorable meal
  • Finding money in a parking lot
  • A colorful sunrise or sunset
  • A warm hug just when you need it
  • The first crocuses of spring
  • Trying something for the first time
  • Laughter with a good friend

These aren’t just filler moments. Often these are THE moments. When you string together all the little things, you see they are all pieces of your happy life.

Stop Waiting to Arrive

Katie left me with a powerful reminder: Stop waiting to “arrive.” The goal isn’t to heal forever—it’s to live fully. Shift from “I’ll be happy when…” to embracing the now, and watch your world transform.

Are you ready to get off the healing hamster wheel and step into a better life? The best strategy is to start small. Celebrate the tiny wins. Explore new sides of yourself.

Most importantly—live your life. Because transformation isn’t a destination. It’s happening right now, in every single choice you make.

Now go shine your light—the world is waiting!
