What Is Divination?

Divination has been around since ancient times, with people accessing their second sight around the globe through a variety of divination methods. Ashley explained that traditional methods like reading tea leaves or using crystal balls are more than just fortune telling. They are ways of connecting perspectives through different objects which hold significant meaning.

In her work, Ashley relies on the objects she notices after posing a specific question. She emphasized that true divination goes beyond accepting just the obvious interpretation of an object. Instead, it involves understanding the object deeply across various levels of perception.

Whether it’s a stone, a tarot card, or even a broken leaf, the essence of divination lies more in the interpretation through your senses and emotions.

Four States of Perception

We talked at length about the four states of perception. These are the physical-literal, mental-emotional, metaphorical-symbolic, and energetic. When examining an object that has caught your attention, start with the physical features like texture or color. Then notice emotions or thoughts that arise as you focus on it.

Afterward, you explore the symbolic meaning and what the object represents metaphorically. Finally, assess the energetic feel—does it seem light or heavy, constricted or expansive?

Through this exploration, you can gain a deeper and more accurate understanding of what your intuition is trying to communicate.

Notice Attraction & Repulsion

An intriguing point Ashley made was paying attention to what attracts and repulses you when working with divination. She explained that attractions might indicate familiar patterns, sometimes leading back to old habits.

On the other hand, things that repulse you could either be warnings or fears that need to be faced. This awareness encourages a balanced and insightful journey into your own intuitive fields. Being honest about these feelings allows you to navigate more authentically through divination methods.

Guiding Your Intuition

Ashley explained that divination is a personal journey into your subconscious mind. Whether you’re using cards or other divination tools, she advises grounding yourself to clear the emotional noise. This way, your intuition can guide you more accurately.

One handy tip she shared involves muscle testing which keeps you from false information. Engaging with your heart’s truth opens a clearer channel for intuitive messages.

Shamanic Journey

I shared an experience of a shamanic journey that delivered amazing and deeply meaningful visions including a jaguar cutting me to ribbons and ptting me back together. However, when I tried this a second time months later, nothing came to me at all.

Ashley said that sometimes the tools and techniques that work the first time may yield nothing the next time. This doesn’t necessarily reflect failure but rather shows how anticipation and expectation can block your intuitive flow. Approaching each journey without preconceived outcomes opens up the possibility for new insights and revelations.

Getting Started with Divination

If you are new to divination methods, Ashley recommends starting with different types of tools like runes, tarot, or I Ching. Experiment with different decks if cards are your choice, as some might resonate with you more deeply.

Ouija Boards and Channeling

While there are many wondrous tools and divination methods, both Ashley cautions against the Ouija board. The reason is this method often attracts lower level energies. It’s essential to ensure who you’re channeling or seeking advice from is from a source truly aligned with your highest good.

For example, I’ve had enough experiences to know the necessity for inviting only whole and healed ancestors into your sacred space. Spirits on the astralplane will not always have your highest good in mind. You want to have a safe and beneficial divination experience.
