The Secret To Midlife: Learn To Trust Yourself & Live Authentically

July 19, 2024

In this episode of the Breathe Love & Magic podcast, I’m speaking with Sheree Clark, an inspiring woman known as the “Midlife Courage Coach.” We discussed intuition, midlife transitions and finding courage to live life authentically.

How to Trust Yourself in Midlife

Breathe Love & Magic podcastSheree became a midlife courage coach because it takes guts to live the second half of your life for yourself after spending the first half living for everyone else. This idea resonates deeply with many women as they reach midlife and begin to reconsider their purpose and priorities.

Often, Sheree’s clients grapple with how to transition from their long-standing roles as mothers, daughters, wives and career women to focus on their own dreams and desires.

This conviction for needing courage is at the heart of her coaching, where she uses creativity and unique exercises to help clients reconnect with their aspirations.

Define the Unknowable

During the conversation, I asked Sheree about “knowing the unknowable.” This opened a fun discussion about how intuition appears. Sheree explained that intuition is often misunderstood or overlooked because it isn’t something we can easily define or rationalize.

“First, let’s define the unknowable,” Sheree began. “Sometimes people call it intuition, synchronicities, or coinkydinks.” She emphasized that everyone has moments where they just “know” something without being able to explain how they know.

These moments of clear intuition can guide you in powerful ways if you choose to listen. That’s why you want to find out how to trust yourself.

Types of Intuition

Sheree Clark Midlife Courage CoachIntuition shows up in many ways, like knowing, feelings, or even hearing messages in your head. This doesn’t make you crazy! Sheree shared a personal story about walking into her home 35 years ago for the first time and knowing she would live there for a long time.

She described it as “hearing without audibleness” and stressed the importance of recognizing and trusting these intuitive moments.

Similarly, in a potentially life-threatening car accident, Sheree felt a calm and clear assurance that she would survive, despite the frightening circumstances. This sense of peace amid chaos is a hallmark of true intuition, differentiating it from fear-based reactions that cause anxiety and stress.

Why being intuitive vs. psychic are not the same.

Intuition vs. Fear

One crucial aspect Sheree highlighted was being able to know the difference between intuition and fear. “When you have a sense of calm about whatever it is you’re ‘downloading,'” Sheree explained, “then it is real intuition.” Fear, on the other hand, is fraught with nervous energy, doubts and physical discomfort.

I agreed with this sentiment by sharing how I seek higher vibrations and pause before acting on messages that feel unsettling or fear driven. Intuition often accompanies feeling calm and higher energy. What matters is learning how to trust yourself.

Develop Your Intuition

To hone intuition, Sheree advises treating it like a game. She suggests simple exercises like predicting the total amount of a grocery bill or guessing the outcomes of conversations. This playful approach helps keep the mind agile and open to inner wisdom without the pressure of being right or wrong.

We also underscored the importance of keeping a written record of intuitive insights. By tracking these moments, you can build a reliable track record and bolster self-trust. This practice not only validates intuitive abilities but also brings awareness to how often you receive valuable guidance and messages.

Live Authentically

Breathe Love and MageicThe discussion then shifted to Sheree’s role as a Midlife Courage Coach. She emphasized that midlife is a pivotal time to reclaim your authentic self after years of prioritizing other people.

“We’ve spent our whole lives being the dutiful daughter, wife, mother, best friend, employee and boss,” Sheree commented. By midlife, these roles shift and often leave women questioning their identities.

Sheree encourages women to explore their true desires and take courageous steps towards living them. In midlife, it’s time to learn how to trust yourself. Courage, in this context, is about daring to prioritize oneself and pursuing passions that were sidelined for years.

Embrace Awe and Magic

Sheree Clark Midlife Courage CoachOne poignant part of the discussion was about embracing awe and magic in everyday life. Sheree explained her connection with nature and how she communicates with trees, acknowledging their sentience and presence.

This practice helps hone her inner guidance and appreciate the interconnectedness that all life has.

Again, I agreed with Sheree that noticing and cherishing magical moments expands your energy field, creating space to manifest your desires. By being present and recognizing these wonders, you can stay grounded in the here and now, which is where all power lies.

Sheree wrapped up with a powerful reminder: “Trust yourself.” Sheree’s message resonates deeply, especially for those navigating midlife transitions. Trusting your intuition and embracing the courage to live authentically allows you to open to immense opportunities, live more fully and enjoy what is.
