For this episode of brave space, I met with Darren Rabinowitz, a self described movement artist, in his hometown of Morristown, NJ. We recorded this conversation on the Morristown Green in the summer - and yes, a bug did fly up my nose, and I kept that moment in the episode like I said I would!
For Darren, dance and movement is his way of communicating. We talk about his journey from dance to circus arts to hand balancing as well as his desire to create a sense of wonder and amazement and to do good in the world.
Darren shares that he believes places hold memories, as do bodies, and he talks about one of his current collaborative projects that will take place in Spain, tracing his family ancestry. We talk about how he feels about the responsibility of an artist, and he emphasizes that he wants his work to come from an honest place; he defines that as "truth, with a bit of Darren."
We talk about two of my favorite topics: self care and finances. Our conversation veers into minimalism, returns to community/family, and touches upon the relationship between humans and nature.
Many thanks to Darren for chatting with me before we both embarked on big moves to new cities! To learn more about Darren, visit https://darrenrabinowitz.wixsite.com/darrenrabinowitz.
