brave space goes international! In this episode, I meet with Austin Holt in Dublin to talk about her life as a theatre professional and graduate student at Trinity College. We talk about what drew Austin to Dublin and how theatre and arts funding in Ireland differs from that in the United States, our home country.

Austin recently produced a play, Escapegoat, with playwright and classmate May Treuhaft-Ali. I ask Austin about her experience fundraising abroad and using crowdfunding to finance the production. We both realize that we're hesitant to ask for help, even when we know we have a support system to fall back on, and talk about why we think we feel that way. Austin talks a bit about her dissertation on identity politics in American theater (shout-out to Hamilton!).

Born and raised in Texas, Austin has a lot of Texas pride. We talk about the cultural differences between the South, the New York Metro Area where I'm from (and where she recently lived), and Dublin based on what we've experienced. We also touch upon how the United State and Ireland differ on remembering and sharing their histories. Lastly, Austin shares that her "lady tribe" has been a source of inspiration for her, and how great it is for women to be supporting women.
