brave space: a gathering of makers
episode three: walter f. rodriguez
I met with Walter F. Rodriguez, a self described "creative," for episode three of brave space. He talks about why he feels most comfortable with this title as someone who wears many creative, artistic, and professional hats. Walter shares how he got his start in photography, a little bit of journey in theater, and what it's like to bounce between and juggle gigs in New York City.
As an actor and director, Walter's had various experiences touring and performing. He talks issues in the theater world and how important it is for theater to bring out the humanness in audiences, not stifle it. We both share our love of the creative process and how important and freeing it is to acknowledge failure; we learn so much from it.
Knowing that Walter has family in Puerto Rico, I ask him how the political climate and aftermath of Hurricane Maria impacts his creative work. He shares that he's able to utilize his art as a method to work through processing Maria and that he's writing a script for a podcast that addresses the blackout in power on the island.
