2 - Bass Reeves
Born into slavery in 1838, Bass Reeves was one of the first African American deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River. Time and time again Deputy Reeves would head into the heart of Indian Territory and bring back the bad guys, dead or alive. During a career that spanned 32 years, he arrested over 3000 outlaws and killed at least 14 men in the line of duty.
